COLONIAL COMFORTS

HISTORY MEETS RELAXATION AT WILLIAMSBURG LODGE, WHERE GUESTS INDULGE IN MODERN COMFORTS THEN STEP BACK IN TIME TO LIFE IN THE 1700S. THIS TRADITIONAL RETREAT IS SITUATED WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE (OR A COMPLIMENTARY SHUTTLE RIDE) OF COLONIAL WILLIAMSBURG, THE WORLD’S LARGEST LIVING MUSEUM. HERE TOWNSPEOPLE, TRADESPEOPLE, SHOPKEEPERS, POLITICIANS, AND OTHER HISTORICAL FIGURES EVOKE THE DAYS OF AMERICA’S FOREFATHERS.

The red-brick Lodge was constructed to resemble a classic countryside home in the Revolutionary era. Room décor is inspired by the collections of the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art Museum, the first in the country dedicated to the works of self-taught artists. Soft bedspreads bear the design of 18th century coverlets, and hand-painted lamps and throw pillows offer a touch of southern comfort. Warm hospitality can be found in the two on-site restaurants, Traditions (serving southern-style breakfast and lunch with a modern flair) and Sweet Tea & Barley (serving period cocktails and dinner using seasonal Chesapeake-area ingredients). An outdoor patio with burning fire pits beckons in the evenings, while live jazz complements the scene on weekends.

Nearby, guests can visit the award-winning Golden Horseshoe Golf Club, the Spa of Colonial Williamsburg, the tennis courts, more than 50 unique shops and taverns in Merchant’s Square, and the Colonial Williamsburg Musket Range, where participants can fire live rounds at a target using 18th century firearms – and the hotel concierge can make all reservations, so guests can focus on relaxing in this quaint town.
