L’Hermitage Gantois
Lille, France
Historic Elegance
Museum or Hotel? France's L'Hermitage Gantois, built in 1462, is both. Guests can stay in rooms that were formerly nuns' cells, tour the old chapel, and take a guided tour to admire the art and architecture of the building.
More than 600 years on, L’Hermitage Gantois has been sympathetically transformed into a boutique hotel where the ancient and the modern – steel and glass alongside a 17th-century staircase and chapel, Renaissance-era tapestries sharing wall space with pop art – creatively coexist. Dining options range from five-course tasting-menu degustations at Restaurant de l’Hermitage to brasserie-style local specialties, such as carbonnade, at L’Estaminet Gantois.
