KUALA LUMPUR'S MOST ENGAGED NEIGHBOURHOOD

RISING ABOVE THE METROPOLITAN SKYLINE OF KUALA LUMPUR’S HISTORIC JALAN KAMUNTING DISTRICT IS THE NEW HOTEL STRIPES. THIS OLD NEIGHBORHOOD IN THE CITY’S CENTER IS DEFINED BY THE MANY CULTURES THAT CONVENED HERE IN THE 19TH CENTURY, WHEN THE AREA WAS A BOOMING SETTLEMENT FOR TIN MINING. AFTER A GREAT FIRE AND FLOOD THE DISTRICT WAS REBUILT BY THE BRITISH COLONIAL ADMINISTRATION USING BRICK AND TILE, WITH SHOP HOUSES CONNECTED BY THE SAME PEDESTRIAN WALKWAYS THAT VISITORS SEE TODAY. THESE ECLECTIC SURROUNDINGS ARE REFLECTED AND EMBRACED IN THE DESIGN OF HOTEL STRIPES.

With its location in the heart of KL, Hotel Stripes connects guests to the pulse of the urban landscape. Some of the city’s greatest restaurants, nightlife locales, art galleries, and shops are nearby at The Row (formally known as Asian Heritage Row), comprised of 22 1940s-style shop houses that create a dynamic mix of old and new.

Local and international influences abound at the hotel’s two dining destinations. Brasserie 25 exudes a rustic charm. With its red brick arcades, mid-century copper sputnik chandeliers and dark wood floors, this French-style restaurant provides a dramatic yet relaxed vibe. The cuisine is laid back but bursting with flavour and even offers le goûter, afternoon tea with a French twist. The Snug, cozy with stripped-back walls giving it an industrial edge, is a great pit-stop for a quick caffeine fix to start the day. The best spot of all, however, may be the hotel’s rooftop pool, an unparalleled vantage point from which to take in this vibrant city.
